What's up with us

If it seems like I've been quiet lately, it's not without good reason. Lots o' stuff going on around here:

The Good:

-Two adorably cute kids who are getting more adorable as the days go by... and more exhausting. I seriously love these two, but... Oh. My. Damn. Why doesn't my three year old nap anymore? Or my 5 month old for that matter?

-We put an offer on a house. It is totally an amazing house. I love it so much I might just run away with it to some deserted island for the rest of our lives. Caper about in loin cloths and live off the land and sea.

Anyway, it's under contract right now, which brings me to...

The Bad:

-We have to find a buyer for our house. Also, we have to make our house presentable enough for said buyer to walk through our house. Easier said than done with my offspring, and one fairly neurotic dog underfoot.

The Ugly:

-There hasn't been much sleeping around these parts lately. Mattias has decided he likes to rock and roll all night, as well as party every day. It's been bad. Like, I want to run away bad. Or, I am going to go play in traffic so I can get hit by a car and rest in the hospital bad. We've also been dealing with high/low blood sugars during the night as well as night terrors with Elise. It is so freaking exhausting.

Soooo, that's it. Hopefully things will be getting back to normal on all fronts very soon.

Still alive and kicking!

Okay, I have totally been ignoring this blog... not without good reason, though. Life has just been crazy lately, and I thought I'd just do a rundown of what's been going on lately:
  • Elise had strep for the second time in about a month. Who knew that you should throw away your toothbrush and flosser when you've been sick with strep? Apparently I do. Now. I'd also like to give a shout out for sugar-free antibiotics... holla! Antibiotics are horrible about raising the blood sugar of a diabetic (not to mention the have a high BG just from being sick). Add flavouring to the mix and it's a recipe for disaster. After her first round of strep, we learned the hard way to ALWAYS ask for sugar-free.

  • I am now 23 weeks along on this joyride called pregnancy. Thank you God for second trimesters! Things have been relatively good, aside from some contractions I was getting a few weeks ago. Thankfully they have stopped. I am still waiting to make the jump from regular clothes to maternity clothes. As one friend put it, "you just look like you ate a really big sandwich." Ha.

  • I am somewhat freaking out about how this pregnancy has zoomed by. I mean, I am over halfway there and haven't even thought about the things that we need to get (that include, but are not limited to); a crib, a stroller car seat combo, boy clothes, a room for the baby to sleep in after he gets too big for the bassinet... I hope that by not thinking about it, somehow it will all figure itself out.

  • Along with over 100 other blogs, I took part in Diabetes Week on my other blog, Death of a Pancreas. It most likely doesn't hold any interest to you if you are not affected somehow by diabetes, but it was very cathartic for me to write a post a day on things like "A Day in the Life", or "Dreaming of a Cure". It was also fun to "meet" new bloggers and read what they had to say on the same topics.

  • Fred and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary on May 20th. Are we really that old?

  • We are leaving for our trip to Vancouver next week! I cannot even tell you how EXCITED I am to go home and show my hometown off to my daughter. Not to mention see the ocean, hug a tree, take a hike, stare at some waterfalls, walk barefoot in the sand, revel in nature, climb a mountain; just generally be outside and loving it again. Also, there will be much eating of some AMAZING food.

Sooooo, that's about it. Hopefully I will be able to find more time for posting on this blog. I have a bunch of half-written posts, and posts that are completely written, but still reside in my head... does that count?

Stay tuned for updates from Vancouver!

Honey, I'm home!

I think this may have been my longest absence from the world of blogging since I started almost two years ago. Didya, miss me?

I must admit I really missed writing, but due to many reasons, could not summon up the energy to write about anything. Here is a brief update:

As you know, my Mom was sick while she was visiting us. What you might not have known is that I was (and am still) pretty sick myself. I went to the doctor and had some blood drawn and we discovered that not only is my white blood cell count in low (second test in about 10 months to come back with that result), but my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) came back at 75. Normal range is from about .3 to 5.

Well, crap-on-a-stick... no wonder I was feeling so supremely lousy. If you don't know much about hypothyroidism, here are a list of symptoms:

* Fatigue
* Weakness
* Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
* Coarse, dry hair
* Dry, rough pale skin
* Hair loss
* Cold intolerance (you can't tolerate cold temperatures like those around you)
* Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
* Constipation
* Depression
* Irritability
* Memory loss
* Abnormal menstrual cycles
* Decreased libido

I was so tired I could barely move, my whole body felt like I had been hit by a truck, my hair was falling out at a rate where I could have supplied someone with a wig every three days (lucky I have a tonne of hair), and I was taking about 5 showers a day because I couldn't warm up. Since I am irritable about 95% of the time, it was hard to determine a change in that.

We discovered the issue about 10 days ago, but I can't tell if I'm feeling better yet. I had a follow up blood test today and should know more in a few days. Maybe I am on the rebound since this is the first time I've actually felt like writing anything.

Hopefully I am getting better and will be able to catch up with everybody else soon. Thank you to those who checked up on me to make sure I hadn't decided to join some reality show or something.

Success!

And on time too! Imagine if people like Fred worked for the government...

From my blog to their ears

I'm not sure who "they" are, but not three hours after my last post, guess what Mr. Fedex hand delivered to my house? A brand-spankin'-new, hot-off-the-presses, Canadian passport; complete with a picture in which I am brandishing my patented "death stare".

Creepy.

Apparently, somebody is listening.

Answered Prayer

Just wanted to let all of you who have been praying know that we have seen improvement in Elise's numbers in the past two days. In fact, the highest she's been since Tuesday at lunch is 205 (normal for her is between 100-200). I am so amazed at the difference in Elise's personality, I finally have my sweet, little girl back. Last night she was being so silly and goofing around... I don't think I've heard her laugh in almost three weeks. I'm being guardedly optimistic and hoping this is the start of a looooooong string of good days. Thanks so much for all your prayers, and praise God for normal blood glucose levels... YEAH!
